Skip The Gym

2025 is underway and every gym parking lot in America is packed. But they'll be back to previous levels in just a few weeks. However, if you do want to make last changes this year, I have a few best practices that may help.

Level Up Your Leadership

This year, I’m upgrading the Foundation Member tier of Friday Forward, rolling in the benefits from the Elevate Club to build a leadership peer-learning group on Substack. Foundation Members will have access to all the Friday Forward Premium benefits, as well as the following:

  • Two Private Keynotes per year, the same content I deliver as a paid speaker for corporate audiences, including live Q&A and discussion.
  • Four Open Office Hours sessions per year—bring your questions, challenges, and goals for a free-flowing discussion with me and other member leaders.
  • A Yearly One-on-One Coaching Call where you can discuss any leadership or business topic.
  • Access to the recordings of all the past Elevate Club content, featuring virtual sessions from Philip McKernan, Liz Wiseman, and Why Institute Founder Gary Sanchez.
  • The ability to chat live with me directly on Substack and get answers to your questions.
  • Free access to my new course on Difficult Conversations, which will release in Q1 2025.

Join this group of driven leaders by following this link and selecting the Foundation Member tier. Most members either expense their annual membership ($285) or seek company reimbursement from their learning budget. I look forward to engaging with many of you more closely in this group.

The Secret To Success For The Savannah Bananas

Last week, I had the chance to interview Jesse Cole, owner of the Savannah Bananas, for a second time on the Elevate Podcast. If you haven’t heard of the Savannah Bananas, you’re missing out. Jesse Cole’s global sensation is baseball’s answer to the Harlem Globetrotters, with millions of social media followers, rabid fans and a years-long waiting list to attend their games. But behind the TikTok dances and hilarious on-field antics is a remarkable business case study. Jesse and his team have mastered essential strategies for building a passionate fanbase, creating an extraordinary customer experience and making bold, creative bets that pay off immensely.

Jesse joined me to discuss all those vital principles. No matter what business you are in, you’ll learn a ton from the Bananas’ unconventional approach and extraordinary outcomes. Listen to the interview to hear Jesse’s funny, inspiring story.

New Year, New Plan

It’s not too late to start intentionally planning your 2025. Last month, I gave a talk to the Foundation Members about my favorite best practices for setting and achieving long-term goals and using the start of a new year productively, and I shared the recording of that talk, and all the tactics referenced in it, in the Leadership Minute earlier this month.

Here’s to achieving everything you want in 2025.

Rivian: I decided to buy a Rivian after hearing founder RJ Scaringe share his inspiring vision for the company on the How I Built This podcast—and I’ve loved every minute of driving it since. Summer is quickly approaching, and I am excited for some travel with friends and family, as well as time with our new puppy. I’m hoping to rest and recharge before the home stretch of the The Compass Within launch, which kicks into full gear this fall. Before taking some time off, I wanted to turn the tables and get your feedback on a couple questions. Your Core Values Stories As part of the Compass Within launch, I’ve started writing a lot more and giving keynotes on the topic of personal...

If you’re shocked by that subject line, know two things: I’m not actually quitting, don’t worry. That shocked feeling you just felt is just like like when someone walks into your office, asks to speak to you and closes the door. And it's exactly what I’m trying to end with my new book, Rethinking Two Weeks Notice, which publishes today. Rethinking Two Weeks’ Notice replaces the outdated paradigm of leaving jobs with two weeks' notice with a playbook that prioritizes transparency, mutual...

Hi Everyone, Last week, we hit a major milestone—over 1,000 people have signed up for Friday Forward Premium. When I moved Friday Forward to Substack almost exactly a year ago, one of my chief goals was to create additional content exclusively for my most engaged readers, growing a community of people committed to upping their leadership game, personally and professionally. I am extremely grateful to everyone who has supported my work, allowing me to turn a passion into a vocation and spend...
