A Thousand Thanks

Hi Everyone,

Last week, we hit a major milestone—over 1,000 people have signed up for Friday Forward Premium. When I moved Friday Forward to Substack almost exactly a year ago, one of my chief goals was to create additional content exclusively for my most engaged readers, growing a community of people committed to upping their leadership game, personally and professionally. I am extremely grateful to everyone who has supported my work, allowing me to turn a passion into a vocation and spend more time writing.

On Saturday, the price of an annual subscription will increase to $55 per year for new subscribers, so this is your last chance to sign up at the old price and save 10% for the life of your subscription. Premium subscribers get access to The Leadership Minute, a weekly tactical leadership series, new on demand webinars, and the full Friday Forward archive. Plus, most people can expense their subscription: Join Today With 10% Off

New on the Elevate Podcast

One of the most illuminating books I have read in the past five years is Tribe, Sebastian Junger’s fascinating deep dive into tribalism’s role in human behavior. A couple weeks ago, I finally had the opportunity to host Sebastian on the Elevate Podcast to talk about Tribe, his breakout book The Perfect Storm, and his latest book, In My Time of Dying, which tells the harrowing story of a near-death experience that prompted him to explore the concept of the afterlife.

Starting a new leadership role? Don’t miss this week’s episode with Michael Watkins. Michael wrote what is considered the bible for any leader or manager starting a new role, The First 90 Days, and he shared a ton of insights into successful leadership transitions, strategic thinking and much more.

Finally, be sure to subscribe to the Elevate Podcast on your favorite platform to catch our Fall season of episodes, featuring Annie Duke, Greg Lukianoff, a return appearance from Patrick Lencioni and some other fun surprises.

I hope you have a great start to your summer.

-Bob

Summer is quickly approaching, and I am excited for some travel with friends and family, as well as time with our new puppy. I’m hoping to rest and recharge before the home stretch of the The Compass Within launch, which kicks into full gear this fall. Before taking some time off, I wanted to turn the tables and get your feedback on a couple questions. Your Core Values Stories As part of the Compass Within launch, I’ve started writing a lot more and giving keynotes on the topic of personal...

2025 is underway and every gym parking lot in America is packed. But they'll be back to previous levels in just a few weeks. However, if you do want to make last changes this year, I have a few best practices that may help. Level Up Your Leadership This year, I’m upgrading the Foundation Member tier of Friday Forward, rolling in the benefits from the Elevate Club to build a leadership peer-learning group on Substack. Foundation Members will have access to all the Friday Forward Premium...

If you’re shocked by that subject line, know two things: I’m not actually quitting, don’t worry. That shocked feeling you just felt is just like like when someone walks into your office, asks to speak to you and closes the door. And it's exactly what I’m trying to end with my new book, Rethinking Two Weeks Notice, which publishes today. Rethinking Two Weeks’ Notice replaces the outdated paradigm of leaving jobs with two weeks' notice with a playbook that prioritizes transparency, mutual...
